Okay! Let’s start organizing all those coupons we are collecting! There are many ways to organize coupons.
When I first started out many, many….MANY years ago, we were very young and I didn’t have much money.
I took multiple envelopes and folded the flaps backward to stick to the next envelope, making a file to take to the store. Although it was flimsy, it did the job, and some stapling was eventually involved, to keep it from falling apart!
I tell you this to show you that you don’t have to have a high dollar system of keeping track of your coupons.
When filing your coupons, you can be as broad or specific on the categories as you like. I have included a Coupon Category List to help you get started. You can either use it like it is, or edit it to adjust it to fit your needs.
A lot of stores now carry plastic coupon files that work great to keep track of your coupons and are a handy size to carry with you. You can subcategorize using paperclips to sort within each category.
While these files are great, you can easily outgrow them as your main coupon filing system, although they are a great organizational tool if you just take the coupons you plan on using with you.
Many people use the shoe box system to file their coupons. It is economical, and some people just take the box with them to the store.
Use the Catagory List page to divide your coupons according to the types of products, or the order you will use them in the store.
It fits neatly in the shopping cart seat so you have all your coupons handy for that “unexpected” sale! Again, sub-categorizing with paperclips helps to keep your coupons sorted.
Another great way to organize your coupons? Think outside the box! How about a photo album? You can slide your coupons in the sleeves and see everything you have at a glance.
You can make categories by putting tabs on the edge to help you easily find what you are looking for.
This is the coupon system I am currently using. In fact I have three! One for Food, one for Health and Beauty, and one for Household Items.
The more spread out they are, the easier it is to see what coupons you have, and when they have expired.
Others use baseball card albums, which is the same concept.
At Mrs. A’s Coupon Organizer you can purchase a great organizer that help you keep your coupons sorted where you can see them at a glance.
Another coupon filing system that others use, is filing the coupon inserts whole. This involves keeping track of the list of coupons each week on taylortownpreview.com (or elsewhere) when they come out, printing out the list, and keeping it filed with the coupon inserts for that week.
Then as you go through the coupon forums looking at the sales and coupon match ups, they will usually list which date and insert the coupon came from. You just go to that insert and clip the coupon as needed.
This should give you a good start to a method of coupon organization that will fit your personal needs. Now you need a good game plan!
